Mummala
A true story of heroism, love and compassion
by Jesse Shortman

Epilogue

The kittens spent the night nursing on their mother's milk. She had gained some strength and seemed to be feeling better. The next day she was taken to the veterinarian where she had surgery to remove the infected tail stump.

Miss Margie had already decided to keep the cat family together. She did not want to split up the brothers nor ever take them away from their mom. Mr. Lew was reluctant, but he felt a sense of respect for the mother cat and a feeling of guilt if she were separated from each of those that she worked so hard to protect.

Miss Margie named the mother Mummala. It's a name that she had called her own mother as a child. The bold orange tabby was named Andrew after the next door neighbor boy that rescued Mummala. The other orange tabby was named Pumpkin, but was later called Timmy for his sweet timidness. Finally, Mr. Lew named the grey tabby Skeezicks after a story book character that was always into mischief. Andrew was nicknamed Bruno for his strength.

Collectively the three boys were referred to as the three Pipsiswahs, the name of another mischievous character from that very same story book.

Mummala returned home from the vet without a trace of a tail stump. She could have been mistaken for a Manx. She healed beautifully and was able to nurse all three Pipsiswahs into strong, healthy kittens.

Today Mummala and the three Pipsiswahs live happily with Miss Margie and Mr. Lew with their nine other beautiful and loving feline brothers and sisters.
